The SkyTrak monitor has a long-standing reputation as holding the best gameplay simulation software in the industry and cites itself as able to transport you to courses all around the world that you can play with your friends from the comfort of your home. In this feature, we look at all you need to know about the SkyTrak+ Launch Monitor.

SkyTrak+ Launch Monitor: An Overview

SkyTrak Launch Monitor

There are a host of launch monitors on the market, yet none come up so often, nor compare to the SkyTrak Monitor in terms of price and performance. According to the SkyTrak website, the SkyTrak+ launch monitor “features the most popular and immersive simulation options on the market – delivering an ultra-realistic and customizable practice and play experience.”

There are a host of features you can make the most of with this monitor, including a “bag-mapping” feature, the ability to filter shots by club, view averages and shot history and an environmental conditions feature that ensures they match up with your everyday playing environment.

There is also a new Doppler Radar System that delivers useful club data such as Club Head Speed, Smash Factor, Club Path and Face Angle. Additionally, applying proprietary machine-learning algorithms to that data delivers precision at a level matched only by the highest-end launch monitors on the market.

Setup and installation

If you’ve never used a golf launch monitor before, or if it has been a long time since you set one up, the initial launch process might seem confusing. Luckily, there isn’t too much to it and the SkyTrak+ is very easy to set up and designed to be user-friendly. The SkyTrak+ comes with the following items: The SkyTrak Launch Monitor, USB Cable, Quick Start and Product & Safety Information Guides, Wall Charger and WGT Golf Software Access Card (If Purchased).

The setup process itself involves four steps

  1. Charge up the monitor
  2. Download the SkyTrak app to your mobile device or tablet
  3. Register your SkyTrak on the app
  4. Pair SkyTrak with your Device (iPad or PC)

Once you’ve set up your device following the above steps, the rest is straightforward. Simply switch on and you can get going! Regarding the ball placement, it’s very simple – firstly ensure the SkyTrak is level with the hitting surface, then place it parallel to your intended target. Make sure the ball is placed where the red laser light is pointing and use the recommended laser distance of 12″.

Using the Product

The SkyTrak+ monitor is easy to use and has a host of features that make bringing golf indoors even more realistic than ever. One of the first greatest things about the SkyTrak+ when compared to its previous model is that it has a 40% larger hitting area making for a more realistic experience. It also has a camera-based photometric system that ensures the ball launch data is a lot more reliable and that it can generate accurate spin numbers effortlessly. A lot of other launch monitors in the market use radar or cameras to measure the ball/club but with SkyTrak+ using both, it offers much more accurate information and results.

When you are using your SkyTrak+ you want to make sure you have enough space to do so comfortably and without risking damaging anything in your home or the surrounding area where you are playing. A lot of golf simulators require a lot of space, but due to SkyTrak’s innovative design, you only need to place it a few feet in front of the golf ball at setup, making it perpendicular to the target. To work out if you’ve left yourself enough space you need to simply check you have room to make a full swing with your driver and that the mat can lay down flat. It’s recommended you place it somewhere out of the way such as a garage, spare bedroom or basement as this minimizes the chance of any accidents occurring or people getting hit by golf clubs!
